Behold

I love the way God uses His Word to speak to me. One morning while reading through the M’Cheyne Reading Plan, I came across the words “And behold.” I was so attracted the word “behold” I circled it and moved on to my next reading. This plan brings you through two chapters in the Old Testament and New Testament. It may have been the ESV Bible I was reading, but I still felt like I saw “And behold” everywhere. Why was this continuing to pop out at me?

So my journey began with searching for what God was trying to show me. I started with looking up the very definition of the word “behold,” with Google saying: “see or observe (a thing or person, especially a remarkable or impressive one).”

My first thought was God wanted me to see this today in this moment. He wanted me to observe His hand in the stories written in the pages of His Word. He wanted me to see His remarkable and impressive works through the lives of His people! I declare that He wants the same for you!

In my spirit I felt so giddy… God saying to me “Watch and see how this all plays out. Watch Makeasha (calling me by name) and see how this story will end.” The end of this whole story is SO impressive. All who admit, believe, and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord will see him in heaven. Isn’t that remarkable and impressive?!

I went back to the Scriptures where I circle the word “behold.”

  • Genesis 29:7-- “Behold, it is still high day”

  • Genesis 29:25-- “And in the morning, behold, it was Leah!”

  • Matthew 28:2-- “And behold, there was a great earthquake”

  • Matthew 28:2-- “And behold, Jese met them and said, ‘Greetings!’”

  • Matthew 28:20-- “‘And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age’”

After each verse, God was orchestrating something significant. After each “behold,” there was a remarkable moment adding details to these stories that make them impressive. Sometimes they were happy endings and other times it marked a moment in history.

I am a woman that loves happy endings! I am the woman who watches Hallmark movies all the time to experience the love and joy that comes with them. It is the deepest desire of my heart to see others happy. And it can be hard for me to watch others walking through difficult seasons. The only thing that help me is knowing that the story isn’t over yet and happiness is coming for all.

So following the examples in Scripture, I may start saying “And behold!” over my own life! And behold, it was Jesus. And behold, Jesus saved me. And behold, Jesus carried me. And behold, Jesus is with me until the end of the age!

Maybe you should do the same! Apply this to your own life. Declare “And behold!” and add your miracle to the end. That’s the key.

We can do the same even for our own city and church:

And behold, we are reaching people and building lives.

And behold, Jesus is preparing for us a harvest.

And behold, Jesus is showing us how to build not just a building but a strong foundation.

And behold, this big thing we have is REMARKABLE and IMPRESSIVE!

See, He is the remarkable and impressive one! And he makes our story remarkable and impressive.

And Behold!
